DNSBL Checks

Upon connecting to any DareNET server, you will see something like the following:

-irc.darenet.org- *** Looking up your hostname
-
-irc.darenet.org- *** Checking your IP against DNS ban lists. This may take a moment.
-
-irc.darenet.org- *** Checking Ident
-
-irc.darenet.org- *** DNS ban list check passed

DareNET's servers are designed to check each host connecting to the network against various DNS blacklists, and, if a match is found, to disconnect the host, preventing the connection process from finishing. These lists are maintained by third-party groups to help stop spam and other abuse. Unfortunately, there are more viruses, trojans and mis-configured systems on the Internet today, than ever before. Attackers use them to spam and evade bans. This is why DareNET utlizies such blacklists.

What you CAN do if your listed:

This method of logging in only bypasses you from RBL checks. If G/K/Z-lined, you still will not be able to connect and should go here for further information.

DareNET's login-on-connect feature allows users with a NickServ account to pre-login while connecting. Using this feature bypasses you from RBL checks; however, it does not bypass any existing bans (g-lines) that may be in place. Additionally, this feature automatically hides your hostname (e.g. usermode +x) before anyone can see you have connected to the network (e.g. notify list).

Login-on-connect uses the "server password" feature built into most IRC clients. All you need to do is input your specially formatted login information into the server password box like the following:

/accountname/password

So, that is: slash, account name, slash, password. For example, if my account name was Joe, and my password was slipknot, I'd put the following into my password box: /Joe/slipknot

mIRC Setup example:

We apologize for the inconvience, and understand that the use of these RBLs will cause some individuals unnecessary trouble connecting to DareNET, but we hope that the trade off of less spam and abuse make it worth while. We will make every effort to allow legitimate users access to DareNET.
