Did You Know?

Do you always get confused between a secret (+s) or private channel (+p)? The answer lies here: secret and private will be hidden from /WHOIS and /LIST, but information about private channels, such as the topic and modes, can still be found.

CertFP Auth and HostServ Groups
Posted by Administrator
Tuesday, 26 January 2010

While our recent updates mostly dealt with fixing bugs, improving the current code base and providing a few enhancements for staff, there are two new features for users we'd like to share:

NickServ CertFP Authentication

It is now possible to setup your account to allow automatic authentication to NickServ via a SSL certificate fingerprint (certfp). For more information on how to use and take advantage of this new feature, go here .

HostServ Groups

Organizations, communities and projects can now register as a group on DareNET, establishing an official relationship between the two entities. But, what does any of that have to do with HostServ? Well, group contacts can grant custom hosts to their group or project participants, providing a form of official recognition.

Group custom hosts are formatted as follows:<account>.<title>.<group>

  • <account>. This is replaced with the user's DareNET account name.
  • <title>. This can be anything the group wants (provided it follows our title guidelines), and is usually used to indicate the user's role in your group or project. For example, such titles might include staff, developer, donor, contributor, member, bot (for utility clients) etc.
  • <group>. This is replaced with your group's name.

If you are interested in registering as a group, please join #support to speak with a staff member, who will gather the necessary information and get you set up!

Network Update - Jan 2010
Posted by SecretAgent
Friday, 22 January 2010

It's been nearly six months since our last major ircd upgrade. Today our development team released ircd-darenet 1.4.0. This is a minor point release that fixes several bugs, and provides a few enhancements. We will start to deploy the new release across the network starting January 24, 2010 (this coming Sunday). This will require a few server restarts; however, users should be able to reconnect immediately.

We encourage channel owners to make note of their channel's ban and except lists. The server restarts will wipe these out, and you may need to manually re-add entries (especially if your bans are not in ChanServ's lamer list for your channel).

As always, we will make another post when the updates have been completed along with information about any new features and changes.

EDIT: Updates completed! Another post highlighting recent changes is forthcoming.
